Integrated Organisational Learning System

We are pleased to announce that we have recently received a £240K award from the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) to demonstrate an innovative approach to Army training.

This will allow us to demonstrate our force development concept called the Integrated Organisation Learning System (IOLS)

This funding, [also supported by the Dstl Transforming Training, Education, and Preparation (TTEP) project within the Future Workforce and Human Performance research programme], will allow us to develop an application for Hive to capture and analyse both performance and experience across Individual and Collective training environments.

We will integrate and develop existing learning systems with innovative technologies (such as xAPI and Hive) to attempt to unlock yet unrealised value for future training systems.

We developed IOLS in response to a need presented by the British Army’s Collective Training Transformation Programme (CTTP) to develop an assured and responsive lessons loop. From now to 2025, collective training will be transformed to prepare the Army (critically, through delivering trained force elements at   readiness, but also through contributing to maintenance of a depth of institutional capability and capacity) for the dynamic and complex future operating environments faced in an era of constant confrontation. Collective training will become a surrogate for warfare; driving adaptation, generating combat ethos, empowering commanders, and delivering tactical innovation. In order so to do, it will be measurable, enabled by simulation and technology, and form part of an assured and responsive lessons loop and wider Warfare Development process.

DASA recognised that if successful, the execution of this concept could result in:

  • IOLS providing the Army with fully integrated performance metrics and the means to collect, analyse and exploit training data objectively through the Individual and Collective training progression.
  • IOLS providing an assured and responsive lessons loop that drives force development, analysis and experimentation to enable adaptation efficiently and effectively.
  • Cost efficiencies, coherence and sustainability, enabled by the means to collect, analyse and exploit training and operational performance data.

We will report our findings in Apr 20 but will be demonstrating an early IOLS prototype at I/TSEC 19.

Cervus are well placed to deliver IOLS having successfully operationalised a defence focused Training Measurement and Evaluation (TM&E) practice for collective training over the last 2 years, with a maturing product development plan.
