Improved decision making for the RNLA and an enhanced learning experience for the Warfighter

TDX is demonstrating to the Royal Netherlands Land Army (RNLA) an Analytics as a Service (AaaS) delivery model that allows the RNLA to get the benefits of a data analytics platform and team, without having to hire a team or build their own data platform.

The RNLA training organisation is exposed to continuous churn with posting cycles of key staff. It nevertheless needs the ability to store and recall data over longer periods, and to use computer and data science tools to identify meaningful trends without relying on staff continuity.

What is TDX?

TDX is a Capability Concept Demonstrator (CCD) for the RNLA of a data analytics approach to filter, process, analyse and curate all training performance information, before exploiting it to support the Land Warfare Centre in optimising and increasing RNLA Combat Effectiveness.

Using Hive, our existing COTS analytics platform, subject matter expertise, and sustained immersion in live, virtual and constructive training activities, we will spirally

What has been achieved this year?

  • We have embedded TDX in several collective training activities in the Netherlands, Germany and the USA.
  • We have spiral developed an RNLA specific solution and began to deliver quick wins and rapid benefits.
  • We successfully integrated Hive into the RNLA’s live training system called Mobile Combat Training Centre (MCTC) and analysed multiple exercises.
  • We have conducted historical analysis of 3 years of Live training data.
  • We have explored the utility of HLA data for analytics as part of a complex LVC environment on Exercise BOLD QUEST 24
  • We have gathered constant feedback to help refine the end user experience.
  • We have successfully worked with key industry partners (i.e. Saab

What will TDX do next?

  • Continue to support and analyse Live training exercises.
  • Integrate with other collective training simulations focusing on TACTIS (Virtual Combined Arms Tactical Trainer).
  • Continue to build a central data repository for LVC training.
  • Increase the TDX metrics library, providing richer feedback.
  • Increase AI-enabled functions to further improve automation of training analysis and feedback
  • Continue to explore a paradigm shift in the way AARs are delivered.
  • Generate common data standards, procedures and search facilities.
  • Develop an integrated implementation strategy.

Why did the RNLA choose Cervus?

  • Cervus are a TDX pioneer – we have been directly involved in conceptualising and solving TDX-related problems for over 10 years.
  • We can apply a set of expert consultant-analysts, data engineers, data analysts and software engineers to this challenge, along with purpose built TDX-ready technologies.
  • Cervus are currently delivering TDX to the Netherlands MOD in a 2-year project, focused on enhancing learning experiences across Live-Virtual-Constructive collective training, as well as assembling insights, advice and options.
  • Uniquely experienced team with exceptional track record
  • Purpose built technology solutions
  • Singular focus on leveraging training data.
"Key to Cervus’ successful award is their blend of expertise in defence experimentation, collective training experience, military understanding, data engineering and data science. Their flexibility, attitude and operational background make Cervus an excellent partner to work with.”
